IFB starts its new connection Antwerp Combinant – Vienna - Sopron

Antwerp, July 5 2010 – IFB, independent subsidiary of SNCB Logistics and specialised in intermodal transport, develops of its European rail network. Thanks to a partnership with Intercontainer (ICF), IFB gives customers rail access to the whole of Eastern Europe.

Kehl, 23 June 2010 - Collaboration agreement between the Kehl Port Authority and Euro Terminal Kehl GmbH (ETK) extended to 2016 – containers from Papierfabrik Koehler transported from the port on water rather than road.

State aid : Commission approves restructuring of SNCB's freight activities

In line with EU state aid rules, the European Commission has authorised SNCB's plans to restructure its freight activities and convert its freight division into a subsidiary. Under the restructuring plan, the freight division will be legally separated and transformed into a commercial company under ordinary commercial law. The plan also includes a substantial reduction in the capacity of SNCB's freight activities. The Commission has concluded that the restructuring plan will ensure the viability of SNCB's freight activities without unduly distorting competition in the internal market.

Haeger & Schmidt International awarded AEO Certificate

Duisburg, May 18 2010 The German logistics contractor Haeger & Schmidt International GmbH, member of SNCB Logistics, has become one of the first contractors in the logistics industry to be awarded the AEO Certificate. This makes the company an “Authorised Economic Operator” registered with the customs authorities. The certificate has been in force since this month.
Certification as an authorised economic operator is one of the main components of the customs security initiative which has been launched by the EU. The aim is to secure international chains of delivery to protect them from risks such as terrorist attacks. It also enables companies within the whole of the European Union to obtain consent for customs procedures with economic significance in a simplified process without having to undergo extensive repeat inspections, as well as other simplified processes. It also means that the use of uniform standards throughout the European Union is extremely important for awarding this status.

Brussels – March, 9 2010 – The Board of Directors of Xpedys, subsidiary of the Belgian railway company SNCB and member of SNCB Logistics, has appointed Pascal Herroelen (°1960) as General Manager and President of the Board of Directors of Xpedys. Pascal has a legal education and has gained extensive experience in the logistics sector. He has occupied several management functions within companies as Caterpillar Logistics Services, ABX Logistics Worldwide and DSV Solutions. Armed with a broad international expertise and his management background, he is determined to pursue the development of Xpedys towards profitable growth.

Xrail – European alliance for wagonload traffic created

Seven railway companies bring competitive rail freight on track

(Zurich, 18 February 2010) Today, seven leading European rail freight operators officially created the Xrail alliance. Xrail’s goal is to render international wagonload traffic by rail more customer-friendly and efficient. The alliance aims to increase the competitiveness of wagonload traffic in Europe significantly, thus helping take traffic off the roads and protect the environment.

What is EcoTransIT?

The Ecological Transport Information Tool (EcoTransIT) is an Internet tool that compares the environmental impacts of goods transported by different modes within Europe. EcoTransIT compares the energy consumption, greenhouse gas and exhaust emissions of freight transported by rail, road, ship and aircraft. It also takes into account intermodal transport services, the characteristics of the transported goods and the different technical standards of the vehicles.
