IFB organises a new rail freight connection between Charleroi and Dresden (Germany) for Lannutti

Antwerp, October 15 2009 – IFB, member of SNCB Logistics and specialised in intermodal transport, invests further in the development of rail freight connections in Europe. The company recently launched a new intermodal connection between Charleroi Trimodal Logistics Center and Dresden (East Germany). The train is organised exclusively for Lannutti Glassdivision, European market leader for this type of transport and owner of the wagons. Lannutti in its turn will deliver the glass panels at its customer AGC, world leader in the field of glass production. AGC has put all its trust in Lannutti because its strategy is based on combined transport, which permits to respond to the logistic demands, with an important accent on the respect of the environment and on ecology.

In a First phase, the train will operate once a week in each direction, with departure on Thursday from Charleroi and on Tuesday from Dresden. It is the intention of both partners to increase the number of round trips per week in the future. The containers, in which the glass panels are transported, are treated with a grip arm and are specially designed by Lannutti for the combined transport.

Mr. Valter Lannutti, CEO of Lannutti: “During the last years, we have developed a close collaboration with IFB, with whom we have a fruitful partnership. Together we have organised this new train connection to respond to the request of our customer AGC. We chose the combined transport, because it permits to respect the agreed delivering times, this means to respond optimally to the market needs, with the biggest respect for the ecology.”

Geert Pauwels, CEO of IFB and coordinator of SNCB Logistics: “The economical crisis does not stop us or our customers to invest in new connections. The quality of our services pays off and we are very happy to develop our services together with our client. Thanks to the strategic situation of our terminals, as the terminal in Charleroi, and the central position of Belgium in Europe, we can organise qualitative and reliable rail freight and/or inland navigation connections from everywhere in Belgium to all surrounding countries.”
