SNCB Logistics, partner of EcoTransit
What is EcoTransIT?
The Ecological Transport Information Tool (EcoTransIT) is an Internet tool that compares the environmental impacts of goods transported by different modes within Europe. EcoTransIT compares the energy consumption, greenhouse gas and exhaust emissions of freight transported by rail, road, ship and aircraft. It also takes into account intermodal transport services, the characteristics of the transported goods and the different technical standards of the vehicles.
The transport of goods causes energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions and exhaust emissions. More and more logistics providers as well as cross border companies want to know the eco-impact of freight movements by various transport modes, in order to reduce this impact.
Consequently, the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Heidelberg, and the Rail Management Consultants GmbH developed the objective EcoTransIT-Tool in order to quantify the emissions from freight transport.
This project is supported by SNCB Logistics and its subsidiaries IFB, Rail Force and Xpedys.
All project partners provide information for the database and constantly update the tool according to national policies and state-of-the-art information.
EcoTransIT can a be used for routes traversing Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
