How to solve mobility and climate issues

The Federal Planning Bureau currently expects that freight traffic will increase by six percent from 2015 to 2020. Road transport has reached its boundaries, but that doesn't mean the logistical sector cannot grow. The railway sector plans to transport 75% more goods in the coming five years than it does today. This will increase the rail portion by one percent annually. Because rail transport emits up to eight times less carbon dioxide and pollutes the air much less than road transport, this has a direct impact on the Belgian climate objectives. No less than 32,000 lorries per day could be removed from our roads.

Can innovation lead rail into the 21st century?

Rail hasn’t changed in the last 200 years

Rail freight transport is an impressive 200 years old. And in all that time, hardly anything has changed. Yes, today’s freight trains look more colourful, more streamlined and are a little faster. But that’s nothing compared to the massive changes road transportation has undergone in the last few years alone. No wonder that rail freight has been surpassed by road transport.

Modal shift to rail? Everyone wants it, we are doing it

Modal shift to rail?  In other words, transporting more goods by a sustainable choice like rail and less by road. Who would not want that? B Logistics has the ambition to live up to that promise.

    Transformation of a railway

B Logistics has come a long way. A troubled state-owned railway company that we have transformed in recent years into a dynamic, financially healthy and private rail company with a promising future. It was a long battle for survival but we got there in the end. And all this thanks to the perseverance, energy and unequivocal professional ability of our employees. I am enormously proud of this achievement. As indeed, change is only possible if everyone is pulling in the same direction.

    Safety is our priority

Safety is at the center of our attention. While sustainable growth and realising modal shift are our ambitions, they will never take precedence over the safety of our personnel or our customers’ goods. Our care for safety goes beyond processes and procedures. We involve the people who have to put safety into practice on a daily basis. Therefore, we just organised a Stations Day around the theme. Guided by a board game, the stations staff discussed the hot safety items and looked together for innovative and creative solutions. Great results, happy people!
